Executive Director

Location: Canal Winchester, OH
Hours: Full-Time; 32 hours/week (hybrid remote), occasional night/weekend availability
Pay: $30/hour, paid bi-weekly
Reports to: Board of Directors (direct)
Benefits: Health insurance stipend
Supplemental benefits: Bonus eligible (performance and membership-based events)
Supervisor responsibility: yes, two full time staff members
PTO: 3 weeks (96 hours) of paid time off

Overview: The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce, responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to advance the organization's mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategic Planning:

  • Assist in developing and articulating a clear vision, mission, and strategic plan for the Chamber in consultation with the board of directors and key stakeholders.
  • Lead the implementation of strategic initiatives to promote economic development, business growth, and community prosperity.
  • Manage a team of up to two employees; including payroll, PTO, and work-from-home scheduling
Membership Development and Engagement:
  • Drive membership recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts to ensure a diverse and robust membership base.
  • Foster relationships with existing and prospective members through networking events, outreach activities, and personalized communication.
  • Perform monthly site visits to prospective new members with in the local area
  • Create and manage the benefit programs and offerings to chamber members and research new ways to foster additional benefits for members
Advocacy and Government Relations:
  • Advocate for the interests of Chamber members at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
  • Build relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and community leaders to influence public policy decisions that impact the business community.
Program Development and Implementation:
  • Oversee the Events Manager to design and implement programs, events, and services that add value to Chamber members and support their business needs. Make sure all needs are met for said events.
  • Collaborate with committees and task forces to address specific issues, gather feedback or insight relevant to the local business environment.
Financial Management:
  • Manager the Chamber's annual budget in accordance with sound financial practices and organizational priorities in partnership with the Chamber Treasurer.
  • Identify and pursue diverse revenue streams, including membership dues, sponsorships, grants, and fundraising activities.
  • Responsible for all monthly billing, and accounts receivable/payable.
Public Relations, Communication, and Marketing:
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Chamber, effectively communicating its mission, initiatives, and accomplishments to the media, public, and membership. Must have appropriate attire and professional appearance.
  • Oversee the various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, and press releases, to promote Chamber activities and engage the community.
  • Ensure the marketing strategy and content calendar align closely with the strategic plan
Board and Volunteer Management:
  • Support the board of directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, including board development, meeting facilitation, and committee oversight.
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers to contribute their time and expertise to Chamber programs and events.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) in business administration, communications, public administration, economics, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership experience in a chamber of commerce, tourism, economic development organization, non-profit, or similar entity.
  • Experience managing both large scale and small, intimate functions
  • Strong understanding of business and membership principles, as well as knowledge of local/regional economic trends.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, writing, and interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and drive results.
  • Some knowledge in financial management, budgeting, and revenue generation strategies.
  • Strategic thinking, innovation, and adaptability in response to changing circumstances.

Working Conditions: The role may require occasional evening or weekend work to attend events, meetings, or networking functions. Ability to stand for more than 1+ hour at a time, sit for more than 1+ hour at a time, good visual and auditory acuity, ability to lift 30+ pounds occasionally. Travel within the region or to conferences may also be necessary.
